DONATIONS TO WAHINE FUND

(New Zealand Press Association? AUCKLAND, May 12. Four persons have so far responded to an appeal for funds for legal representation of Wahine survivors at the forthcoming marine Court of Inquiry. None of those who sent money to the fund were survivors.

The appeal was made by Mr I. Bull, of Waharoa, near Morrinsville, who is the father of five-months-old Judy Bull, the youngest survivor of the disaster.

“It is surprising that there has not been a greater response from survivors,” Mr Bull said tonight. "However, it’s early days yet and no doubt we’ll soon be hearing from more people.” Mr Bull said that he had beeen “most touched” by the letters which accompanied donations ranging from SI to $lO.

“One was from a young Auckland girl who said that she had been greatly moved by the story of how our baby was rescued. She sent 84. "Another was from an oldage pensioner who sent SI, and an anonymous contribu-

tion of $1 was signed *for justice’.” Mr Bull said that a Hamilton solicitor had offered to handle the fund and he would probably accept the offer. “I’d much prefer that it was done on a proper legal basis.” Contributions can be sent to Mr Bull at his home address, 2 Carroll Street, Waharoa.
