Official Report And Prices

The official report on yesterday's wool sale, issued by the Christchurch Woolbrokers 1 Association, in conjunction with the New Zealand Wool Buyers’ Association and the New Zealand Wool Commission says:— “The offering of 36,518 bales was drawn from the Canterbury and Marlborough districts, with a big percentage of the catalogue comprising Nelson and West Coast wools. The offering was a typical end-of-season selection, with crossbred types predominating, as is usual at ihls sale, with smaller quantities of Corriedale and Merino available. The fleece wool on offer was generally ahowlng colour and was often faulted with tenderness and cottlng was also in evidence. The autumnshorn dips were mainly well grown, although they showed more colour than usual.

“There was a good selection of lambs’ wool on display and these were mainly of good colour and well grown. A bigger proportion than usual were deep combing lambs, due mainly to later shearing dates. There was a fair selection of second-shear fleece, mainly of average style, oddments generally showed more colour than usual for this sale.

There was a good attendance of buyers and competition was general, main support being given by the Continent, Bradford and local mills. There was little support from Japan, and Eastern Europe with the United States giving some support to carpet types. “Compared with the last fine wool sale In Tlmaru, the market was Irregular, but around 16 per cent cheaper, the drop being more noticeable on better style wools. Oddments wore irregular, but basically unchanged. “Compared with the recent Napier sale crossbred fleece, skirtings and two-shear were slightly dearer. Crossbred lambs of combing length were 24 per cent dearer.*’ The following is the official range of prices:— Merino, 60/Ms, 645:
