Soccer Fan Wrote To The Queen
(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) LONDON. A 48-year-old »occer fan, Mr George Ripley, has written to the Queen asking if he can have Prince Philip’s English Cup final ticket, the “Daily Sketch” reported. Mr Ripley, a hairdresser, of Prescot, near Liverpool, admitted he was desperate for a ticket to the Everton-West Bromwich final. He has been an Everton supporter all his life, but the club’s quota of tickets has gone to season ticketholders. When he heard that Prince Philip weald be away in Australia on the big day
he decided to write to the Queen. “Dear Ma’am. Do you think it would be at all possible to have the Duke's ticket?” he wrote. “I know it’s a long shot, but you never know, do you?” Mr Ripley said. But a spokesman at Buckingham Palace said Mr Ripley had no chance of getting a ticket from the Palace. “The Queen is invited to the cup final, but ticket* are not placed at her dis* posal,” ’ the spokesman said. Now Mr Ripley has hit on a new plan. “I am offering free haircuts for a year to anyone in exchange for a ticket,” he said.
