More Visit Fiji

For the first time since figures have been kept, Australian visitors to Fiji outnumbered New Zealanders last year, according to a bulletin issued by the Fiji Visitors Bureau.

In all 56,021 visitors stayed in Fiji for 24 hours or more, and of these 14,928 were Australians, 14,830 New Zealanders and 12,754 American. The number of visitors was a 26 per cent increase over the number in 1966.

A trend emphasised last year was the comparative youth of the Australian and New Zealand visitors. The largest age group in this section was that from 20 to 29 years, while the largest group in the American section was over 60 years old. In both cases men outnumbered women.

So far this year figures have been higher than in 1967. In January of this year the number of visitors was 40 per cent higher than in the same month in 1967.
