‘STAG PARTY’ FOR DUKE

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 22. Auckland’s civic reception for the Duke of Edinburgh on May 23 will be a “stag party.” The Mayor of Auckland (Dr R. J. McElroy) said today that the function in the newest city hotel would be for male guests only. The 250 guests would be chosen by the Auckland City Council, in consultation with the Government, taking into account the interests of the Duke.

The Mayor said the Duke was travelling alone and paying a flying visit on his way to Australia, where his main mission was to open a conference, and it was thought that a men’s dinner would be the most suitable function.
