WAHINE INQUEST

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 22. The main inquest into the deaths of the 51 victims of the Wahine disaster will open at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 3, in the Arbitration Court, the Wellington Coroner (Mr J. Meltzer) announced today. Inquests have already been opened for purposes of identification. Next-of-kin of all victims, including Australian, have been advised of the date for the main hearing. Many witnesses are expected.

Mr Meltzer said the purpose of the hearing was to ascertain the causes of death, but if anything arose on which he considered it proper in the public interest to comment, he would do so.
