FRUIT SYMBOL

The Apple and Pear Board may adopt a symbol for its overseas and local market packs, advertising material, letterheads and canned goods. Among the designs submitted to the board is one which has a kiwi in white outline against the background of an apple and a pear and with the words “New Zealand” in a curve underneath. The apple and “New Zealand” are in red and the pear is in green. The information officer of the Manufacturers’ Federation (Mr E. G. A. Frost) yesterday said that this symbol was only a proposal but the federation believed the executive of the Apple and

Pear Board was In favour of it. Mr Frost said that the kiwi symbol had a dual application—within New Zealand to bring home to New Zealanders themselves thie range and quality of our own production, and in the export markets to deliver the New Zealand message on the widest possible front. The symbol was being extensively used overseas in New Zealand exhibits at fairs and exhibitions, by Trade Missions, and in promotions by the Tourist and Publicity Department. It had been adopted for export promotion by the Fishing Industries Board, and the Dominion Sawmillers* Federation.
