Opposition To Bank
An application by the Post Office for permission to park a mobile savings bank in London Street, Lyttelton, on Tuesdays was not favoured by some members of the Lyttelton Borough Council last evening. The application was referred to the traffic committee after discussion.
The Post Office did not pay the council rates, and there were two other savings banks in Lyttelton, the Mayor (Mr J. B. Collett) said. He did not favour the application. In any case, permission should be for a limited time only, Cr E. A. Camfield said. The Post Office already had quite a lot of land in Lyttelton where it could park its caravan, he said.
