Situation.—A trough of low pressure is moving slowly eastwards on to New Zealand. Forecast: Buller and Westland.—Moderate variable winds but fresh westerlies in a few places; a few showers about the ranges and in places exposed to the west; brighter weather elsewhere; moderate temperatures. Kaikoura Coast and Canterbury.—Moderate variable winds; scattered rain and mist clearing to become mainly fine by late this afternoon; little change in temperature. Central Marlborough and the Sounds.—Northwesterlies prevailing; becoming fresh about Cook Strait; showers about the high country but cloud breaking elsewhere; moderate temperatures. Nelson.—Moderate variable winds; fine apart from showers near the ranges. Outlook.—All districts: Showery periods are still likely.
