The Canterbury Gymnastic Association's vtnture In introducing modern gymnAstlcs, tumbling, and rebound tumbling. on a competitive baeia, proved eucceeeful tn the first champlonahlpe held on Saturday at St Andrew’a College and the Y.M.C.A.

A largo entry of 110 gymnaata provided keen competition In el) the gredee, the moot outstanding being in the girls' eectlon of modern gymnaatlca where work of internetlonel atandard waa aeen. Lynn Walmeley, Gillian De Beer and Jill Buchanan presented voluntary exercleee of great artistic merit and technical competence. The tumbling eectlon once more demonetrated tho superiority of junior competitor*. Alleon Burnside, Rotalle Gibson and Angela Douglas providing the audience with many thrllle. Although tho entries were light In rebound tumbling, tho competence of the gymnasts was unquestioned, and the winners were well up to national class. Tho most successful competitors of the dsy were two potential New Zealand representatives. Heather Johnston, who hsd already represented New Zealand In Australia last season, and Jill Buchanan, who hopes to do sO shortly. Each had double wins In their respective classes. Results were:—
