Results Of Cycling
Amateur cycling clubs held races In depressing weather On Saturday, and the conditions probably deterred some riders. The Papanul club held 15-mlle scratch races on Its opening day and tho fields included 10 riders who were either new to the sport or the club, or had not ridden for some years. They Included H. R. Bush, who last competed In 1964. and D. R. Johnson, whose last appearance was about 10 years ago. B. G. Stockwell won tho A grade race by breaking away but the other races were contested In sprint finishes. A veteran, R. M. Fowler, won Avon's second race of the eeason. a 30-mlle handleap, In a sprint with his co-marker. S. Keys. A limit rider, W. J. H. Wood, was third and the scratch riders led the rest of the field in. M. W. Litolff won the bunch sprint from D- Jones and G. R. Sword for fastest time. Results:— Papanul.—A grade: B. G. Stockwell 1. D. M. Dixon 2, I. D. McLean 3, B. R. Chisholm 4. Time, 40:13.
