Manager Robbed
The manager of the Papanui Hotel, Mr P. Heyden, was attacked and robbed of $821.58 about 11.50 p.m. on Saturday. All the barmen had left the premises and Mr Heyden was closing the back door of the front bar, which is in a separate building to the living premises, when he was attacked from behind and knocked to the ground. A young man snatched a bag containing part of the bar takings and ran down Winston Avenue towards the railway station. Mr Heyden scrambled to his feet and gave chase. The young man jumped into a car which moved off so quickly that It is believed he had an accomplice waiting with the engine running. Mr Heyden had put some of the takings in the office earlier in the evening.
