The Rimu Scout district of West Christchurch is conducting, very energetically, a campaign for leaders. And behind the campfiigo, naturally, there are group committees, all as busy as can be. They have much to think about and work on. And the parents of the little chap being sent on his cheerful way to scout camp can have little idea of .the problems which arise, among those who conduct scout affairs. The unhappy habit Tommy has of putting a foot through the tent mikes it necessary for a new one to be provided fOf one of the patrols. Can it be bought, or found, or the old one repaired once

more? Cut-rate plumbing is often on the agenda. So are such things a? how best to deal with the latest little vandal who made an unauthorised entry through the toilet louvre. And of course the people on the committee have their own personal problems which have to be taken into account in any assessment of their contribution to the scout movement Take the lady secretary of one of the committees who met her patrol leader one Friday and reminded him that she would be seeing him at the meeting next Tuesday. He looked puzzled: and he had to explain that, the meeting had been last Tuesday, and

that she haq not been there. It is not hard to understand. She has two jobs, as well as five children, to go with the scout committee work. And that day the family cat, injured when struck by a car, had kept everyone occupied in trying to effect its capture as a preliminary to veterinary treatment. In a fine state of nerves, it had clawed its way clean through youngest son’s best trout landing net; all this, in the middle of the school certificate examinations. She is still secretary, but she feels sure retribution is at hand: the annual election ot officers is about to take place.
