Cantabrians Win, 37-30
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Cantabrians beat Barbarians (Auckland), 37-30, in the charity Rugby match at Eden Park yesterday, scoring nine tries, five of them converted. Barbarians scored four tries, three conversions, three penalties and a dropped goal. The match involved 13 members of the 1967 All Blacks, eight of them Barbarians, five other All Blacks of recent years, and many provincial representatives. Cantabrians, after trailing 10-14 at half-time, took a grip on the match by scoring 11 points in six minutes soon after the start of the second half. R. Patterson scored three tries for Cantabrians, K. R. Tremain two, and G. S. Thorne, S. T. Meads, C. R. Laidlaw and I. Kirkpatrick one each. W. F. McCormick converted five. L. J. Davis scored two of the Barbarians’ tries, and C. E. Meads and K. J. O’Shanriessy one each. W. L. Davis kicked a dropped goal and R. D. Whatman three penalties and three conversions.
