Mr Shand To Visit Geneva

I The Minister of Labour i (Mr Shand) announced toj night that he would attend the plenary session of the International Labour Organisation Conference at Geneva, which opens on June 5. He will also visit several other countries. He also announced that the Government delegates to the conference would be Mr H. C. J. Thompson, Assistant Secretary of Labour, and Mr P. Hegarty, one of the department’s senior inspectors. Mr Shand said that he expected to have discussions with electrical firms in Sweden from whom New Zealand had in recent years bought considerable quantities of equipment, and to take the opportunity to point out that trade was a two-way business and New Zealand “had a lot of lamb to sell.” New Frigate Tenders for the construction of New Zealand’s new Leander class frigate will be called today by naval liaison officers at the High Commission in London. A spokesman at New Zealand House said that specifications would be circulated to about eight British firms which make up the nation’s warship building group.—London, April 19.
