Preservation Of Cook Site
fN.Z. Press Association) GISBORNE, April 19. The actual site on which Captain Cook first set foot in New Zealand would be preserved for all time as a historic place, the Mayor of Gisborne (Mr H. H. Barker) said today. He was replying to Dr R. S. Duff, director of the Canterbury Museum, who was reported yesterday as saying the landing area was now designated for industrial sites. Mr Barker said harbour development unavoidably encroached on the area surrounding the site, but the actual site itself would be preserved.
New Name.—The Union Steam Ship Company ship Kaitangata has been taken over by A. G. Frankham, Ltd, and will now be known as the Paladin.—(P.A.).
