Dow Jones Firm On Higher Volume
(N.Z.P.A.-Renter—Copyright)' NEW YORK, April 18. The New York.stock market continued to exude confidence over the prospect of peace talks on Vietnam as it followed the pattern of previous sessions and rose in active trading.
The market opened firmly and rose throughout the day except for brief dips. The volume climbed to 15.89 m, the fifth highest level in its history, from 14.09 m yesterday. Gains and losses nearly etwo to one from the outset and finished 794 to 514 at the close, when the tape ran three minutes late. Reason For Volume Brokers attributed the high volume primarily to institutional investors switching to peace stocks. The market again under-
went profit-taking as Hanoi and the United States still had not agreed on a site for peace talks.
