German Writer To Visit Christchurch
A notable German writer, Mr Siegfried Lenz, will visit Christchurch on Monday to speak to students at the University of Canterbury and to the recently-formed Goethe Society. Mr Lenz's visit is sponsored by the Goethe Institute in Germany which promotes
German culture and language overseas. Mr Lenz, who was born in 1926, published his first novel in 1951 and has since written several more novels and collections of short stories. A 650-page novel was finished a few days before he I left on this trip, which has included visits to universities in Turkey, Australia and New Zealand. Mr Lenz has also written plays for stage and radio.
One, which was a notable success in Germany, was broadcast in New Zealand some time ago.
