MUSEUM AT AKAROA
No Mt Herbert Support No grant will be made by the Mount Herbert County Council towards a reserve fund that the Langlois-Eteve neaux House Museum Board at Akaroa hopes to set up foi expansion. The board, in a letter received by the council at its meeting yesterday, asked for an annual contribution of $ll4 to make up $6OO a year with grants from the Akaroa and Wairewa County Coun cils. “They don’t say whether the townspeople at Akaroa have been asked for money.’’ said Cr J. H. Mathias. Cr C. E. Jenkins said it had been suggested that Akaroa should find more money Mount Herbert could not give money that it had not got. The chairman (Mr E. R Radcliffe) said Mount Herbert had helped establish the museum, but had not agreed to other help. On his motion, it was agreed not to make a grant but to tell the board the council would consider making a grant for specific work. Finances.—The Clerk (Mr C. O. Spiller) said there was a credit balance of $lBl4 at March 31, but it was fictitous because of a debit in the plant replacement account.
