BUILDING WORK
School Plan Rejected , The Minister of Education (Mr Kinsella) has rejected a Canterbury Education Board request that extra funds for remodelling schools be made available immediately to provide work for the building industry. He said first priority must be given to new schools and additions to meet population increases, and most funds would be required for this work. However, in the coming year, more money for remodelling might be available Mr S. W. Gower told a board meeting yesterday that this reply was “regrettable”. Mr Gower said he had proposed the claim because remodelling had a high labour content and a low capital content. For the time being this kind of work should have priority.
