Rise In Commercial Activity Forecast
» (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 19. Further cuts in commercial activity were not necessary now, the Minister of Finance (Mr Muldoon) told a gathering of businessmen in Auckland today.
“I expect us to keep at the present level and slowly build up,” he said, in opening a new factory at Glen Innes. Mr Muldoon said he wanted to help “those industries that have taken a bit more than their share during the last few months” and then move ahead again. He did not foresee a return to boom conditions but pre-
| dieted a period of sound progress, with a reasonable {balance on all levels. Manufacturers would need the confidence to stick their necks out a little—“the confidence that we are going to come through.” New factories were an expression of sucn confidence.
It was also important that everyone should try to hold internal costs down. “A little bit later on—-I won’t say just when—we could all pat ourselves on the back and say that was a job well done,” he said.
