YACHTING UNION
N.Z. Gains Entry (N.Z. Press Aitaeiatlen) WELLINGTON. The New Zealand Yachting Federation has been admitted to the International Yaeht Racing Union, a spokesman for the federation, Mr H. Wagstaff,- of Wellington, said on Wednesday. Previously, New Zealand’s interests were looked after by Britain, which represented the Commonwealth at union meetings. Membership of the union, according to Mr Wagstaff, will enable New Zealand to protect the interests of its Finn class boats, at present being threatened by European moves to replace the Finn as an Olympic class, to get international recognition for the Cherub class, a New Zealand design that has spread throughout the world, and to support moves to have the moth class, one of the most popular classes in the country, granted International recognition. "We will be able to make sure that if the Finn is replaced, the new boat is s better one and that it can be sailed In New Zealand conditions,” Mr Wagstaff said.
