Dissatisfaction With Magazine
When delegatee stated they were aatisfled with the “Heme end Country Journal” at the annual meeting of the Canterbury East Federation of Country Women’s Institutes, several said that few members of their particular institutes supported the magazine. When asked for ideas and suggestions for its improvement, most expressed satisfaction with the new "pocketedition type” format Bumham, however, said the smaller edition used smaller print and this might be awkward for elderly members. Several delegates, including those from Bumham, Doyieston, Irwell, Killinchy, and Springston-South, suggested a recipe or craft section (especially plain knitting for the larger figure) would improve the content The Lincoln delegate said she would like more reports of the international aspect of the country women’s organisations.
The Little River delegate said the reports from around the institutes were repetitive and often boring and could be replaced by interesting articles. Springston-South suggested the magazine should delete the children’s section and the reports from around the institutes. A section devoted to chatter over the tea-cups with funny sayings by children was put forward by Springston but the federation president (Mrs E. G. Tait) said there was already scope for this. When the Ladbrooks delegate said their reports were sometimes not used in the magazine, Mrs Tait said the secretary of the federation (Mrs L. D. Robb), who handled the contributions, had to have at least five reports to qualify for space for a group report from the Canterbury East federation. This topic will be further discussed at the annual conference of the C.W.I.
