WATERFRONT LEGISLATION
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 18. Talks on possible legislation affecting the organisation of waterfront work were held today by the Waterfront Conference and Cabinet Ministers. With the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) at the meeting was the Minister of Labour (Mr Shand), the Minister of Marine (Mr Scott), and the Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon). The chairman of the Waterfront Conference (Judge K. G. Archer) led the conference’s deputation. Mr Holyoake said that submissions were made on the possible effects of the introduction of any legislation which would alter the present system of employment on the waterfront, or which would have a bearing on the future effectiveness of the conference. No decisions were made, he said. If legislation were introduced, all interested parties would have the opportunity to discuss it before final decisions were made.
