Craft Damaged At Cass Bay

At least five small craft at Cass Bay were damaged on a lee shore in the storm last week, including a large trimaran the Tactile, which was later burned by her owner because she was beyond repair after her pounding by the sea.

Diamond Harbour craft, both launches and yachts, ranging in size from 20ft and slightly larger, also suffered. Of six craft moored near the wharf, only one remained at its moorings during the gale. The others were driven ashore and suffered serious hull damage.

The 20ft wooden-hulled, powered working dinghy owned by the Lyttelton Harbour Board, which foundered beside No. 5 Wharf during the storm, was retrieved yesterday and is expected to be in use again soon, according to the Deputv-Harbourmaster (Captain L. W. Davis).
