Chatham Cup Soccer ' Shamrock and High School Old Boys scored runaway victories in their first round Chat- | ham Cup soccer matches at EngI lish Park last evening. Although it missed a penalty when A. Marshall’s shot rebounded off the bar, Shamrock still managed to reach double figures in beating Riccarton, 10-1.
The right-wing. J. Killick. had a field day, scoring half of Shamrock’s goals. The team's other scorers were H. Taylor. W. Yates, M. Ellis, Marshall and D. Glubb. Riccarton, which was out of its class, was saved from an even heavier defeat by the courageous goal-keeping of P. Oliver. Its only goal was scored by P. Bayliss. In another one-sided match. Old Boys beat Watersiders. 5-1. Quicker to the ball and sharper In front of goal. Old Boys were only under real pressure during a short period in the second half when Watersiders made a belated. but unsuccessful, attempt to recover lost ground. G. McNaught (2), G. Williams. B. Hicks, and C. Hicks scored for Old Boys, J. Forster for Watersiders. Shamrock and Old Boys now join the other first round survivors. Rangers and CashmereWanderers. and the four seeded clubs—Technical, Western. New Brighton, and City—in the draw for the quarter-finals.
