Brando Takes Up Cause (N.Z P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) HOLLYWOOD, April 17 Marlon Brando, the actor, is abandoning his film career for full-time involvement in the civil rights movement. Bowing out of his lead role in the scheduled film. “The Arrangement,” Mr Brando said “personal matters with which I am presently involved are of such an over whelming nature that I prefer not to get into the making of a motion picture at this time.”
Friends said the persona) matters were his Involvement with Negro causes. Mr Brando flew to Atlanta last week to attend the funeral of Dr Martin Luther King, jun., and later in the week the actor showed up in San Francisco to lend his sup port to a Negro group called the Black Panthers whose leader has been gaoled on a charge of killing a policeman.
