Labour Rise At Port
(N.Z Press Association) TIMARU, April 17. Eleven Port Chalmers waterside workers, 10 of them with families, have moved to Timaru since the start of the LondonLiverpool meat loading programme for the South Island When the programme was instituted it was estimated that the Port .Chalmers waterfront union strength would have to be reduced by 60. Since December 15 last year, 10 ships have loaded under the Timaru meat conveyers, and the eleventh, the Adelaide Star, will complete loading tomorrow.
In this time the Timaru port labour strength has increased from 208 to 234.
