Ante-dated By Riots
1 Therein lies a clue to the [true potency of Stokely Carmichael, arch-apostle of Black 'Power. He might like to take i the credit (if credit is the 'word) for the convulsions that i wrack America's long hot sumimers but history will deny it Ito him. The riots ante-dated [him. His contribution has been to articulate a justification for the least justifiable of the rioters. He has associated himself with existing strife. The strife was not inspired by him. His stature has been of his own making. It is a tragic irony that the most vital blow struck against it was struck by the triggerfinger that gunned down Martin Luther King. For in that moment the man of peace achieved a lasting stature and his teachings a meaningful urgency beside which those of the man of violence seem shrill and puny.
