CREDITORS’ MEETING

Bankrupt Owes $1029 Rayinon Robert Williams, an unemployed labourer, of 122 Oram Avenue, New Brighton, owed $1029.09 a meeting of his creditors was told at the office of the Official Assignee (Mr J. B. K. Currar' yesterday. He bad 20 unsecured creditors for sums totalling $1089.09, one secured creditor for $6O and assets of $6O, leaving a total deficiency of $1029.09. Williams said that both he and his wife had been ill several times in the last two years. As a result, he had been out of work nine times in that time and the sickness and unemployment benefit were not sufficient for a family of eight to live on. He said that when he married his wife in 1961, together they owed about $lOOO. This had been gradually paid off but new debts had accumulated. He married his wife, a divorcee, with three children, while he was serving a twoyear prison sentence for assault and burglary. Because of his circumstances he could offer nothinr to his creditors, he said. Several of the creditors were for car repairs and petrol, court fines and restitution orders. The meeting was adjourned sine die because there was no quorum of credito-s.
