Good Results From Drug

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 16. Good results are being obtained with a new injection used In Britain in cases of breast cancer, said Dr George Christie, medical director of Syntex Pharmaceuticals, in Auckland today. He arrived by air yesterday and is having talks today with doctors at the National Women's Hospital. He said the new treatment, first tried with animals in America, had been the subject of wide research by medical men, supported by the Imperial Cancer Research Fund in Britain. It appeared to work in two ways. It cut down the amount of a female sex hormone reaching the breast—a hormone necessary for the growth of cancer and it changed the chemistry of the tumour cells so that their ability to reproduce themselves was reduced, he said.
