OBITUARY A. T. Gatrell
“Th« Press*’ Special Service WANGANUI. The prominent Marton racing administrator, Mr A. T Gatrell, died at Palmerston North last week. Mr Gatrell went to Marton In 1924 to take over the Marton Hotel. In recent years he had been associated with the White Hart Hotel. He became associated with racing soon after his arrival, joining the Rangitikei Hunt Club and the Marton Jockey Club. For over 30 years Mr Gatrell was the hunt club's treasurer and in 1962 the organisation named its principal flat race the Gatrell Handicap. For long service as a Marton Jockey Club administrator, Mr Gatrell was honoured with a life membership He is survived by a daughter and two sons.
