RACING Sandbank, Jay Ribbon Top C.J.C. Hopes

Sandbank and Jay Ribbon, both winners at Riccarton on Easter Monday, are strongly-fancied form runners for repeat wins on the second day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s autumn meeting today.

But newcomers at the meeting may have a strong influence oh at least three other races on today’s programme. Sandbank, top-weight in the first race on the card, the Kildare Handicap, was much too good for the others in the corresponding race on Mon day. and unless he has a sharp lapse of form he should win again with a bit in hand. Jay Ribbon was scratched yesterday for the Tasman Handicap and will run in the

longer Shirley Handicap, the last race on today’s programme The leading jockey, W. D. Skelton, will ride Jay Ribbon again. His Tasman Handicap mount will be David William, a winner in his hands at Riccarton in February. Beau Leigh, one of Skelton’s four winners at Rangiora on April 8, should be another top contender for Tasman Handicap honours Volante, from Southland, and the Wingatui-trained Tigris Note are fresh two-year-olds at the meeting capable of making an impression in

the Autumn Nursery Handicap. This race offers the prospect of a fairly even struggle, with Allspice, Every Post, Harold Bank, and Elloughton expected to run well. T.A.B. Double Sir Limond, Kalimera Sabell, and Takatua, which make up half the field for the Dominion Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double, did not race on the first day of the meeting Being a last-start winner and W. D. Skelton’s mount again, Sir Limond is almost certain to be favourite, but Sabell is one likely to test him.

In spring racing this sea son there was little between Sir Limond and Sabell for ability Sabell missed tbe summei racing, and Sir Limond has won three races since last these two met over a middle distance.

Sabell is now 61b below Sii Limond. and he could make an impression in his switcn back to a middle distance today. At his latest start Sabell was a close third behind Tumble and Glamis Lad over six furlongs at Rangiora. Tumble was scratched yesterday from the Templeton Handicap, second leg of the T.A.B double Those ex Dected to play the dominating roles are James Arthur. The Greatest and Manana, the closest to Pasa Doble in the Great Easter Handicap finish and Winning Words. Monday's Warstep Stakes winner James Arthur’s Dunedin owner, Mr J. A. Wilson, was undecided yesterday whether

to start his three-year-old today or wait for the Waltham Handicap on Saturday. He will make a decision after James Arthur works fit Riccarton this morning.
