DOBSON COAL
M.P. Slates Distribution (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, April 16. “I am informed on the best authority that there is not one bag of Dobson coal available for sale In Canterbury," the Labour member of Parliament for Westland (Mr P. Blanchfield) said yesterday. Mr Blanchfield said the Dobson mine’s output was already heavily stockpiled. The future of the mine was in jeopardy, its eventual closing having been announced by the Minister of Mines (Mr Shand). With the cold snap and the onset of winter there was the usual high demand for coal in Canterbury and he had been told that Canterbury people would be happy to burn Dobson coal, especially in conjunction with the faster burning types such as Strongman.
Mr Blanchfield said that he would take the matter up with Mr Shand this week.
