EMPLOYEES BENEFIT

(New Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON, April 16.

Radical changes in employment conditions are contained in a new industrial agreement negotiated between the New Zealand Clerical Workers’ Union and major airlines touching New Zealand.

The agreement has been negotiated on the basis that employment conditions cannot be compared with an ordinary five-day, 40-hour-week business. It contains several important objectives of New Zealand trade unions, including

equal pay for equal work, paid sick leave, and long-service leave of up to 180 days. The agreement follows the European pattern of requiring longer notice to be given to employees. Longer Notice

It provides that those with two years service must receive two weeks notice and employees with five years service four weeks. The secretary of the union (Mr D. G. Nolan) said today that the agreement had given a new lead in employeremployee co-operation. He said the agreement recognised there would be mistakes and misinterpretations at times, but procedures for settling these are designed to limit the area of dispute and simplify settlement.
