N.D.C. Chairmen Appointed

With the apjxjintment today of chairmen for the Labour. Transport, Distribution, and Education Training and Research Committees, the basic committee structure of the National Development Conference was complete, said the chairman of the conference steering committee, Mr N. R. Davis (Secretary to the Treasury).

Mr G. J. Schmitt, an industrial consultant and former managing director of Tasman Pulp and Paper Company, Ltd, will be chairman of the education training and research committee. Mr N. S. Woods, Secretary of Labour, will head the labour committee. Mr A. T. Gandell, former General Manager of Railways, will be chairman of the transport committee. Mr J. N. Laurenson, a director of Woolworths (New Zealand), Ltd, and former manager for New Zealand for

that company, will head the distribution committee. The other committees, and their chairmen, are: Targets, finance and services for development, Mr A. R. Low, Governor of the Reserve Bank: manufacturing, Mr M. J. Moriarty, Secretary of Industries and Commerce: fisheries, Mr H. G. Callam, public accountant and company director, of Auckland; minerals, Mr R. C. Bradshaw, public accountant, and chairman of Lime and Marble, Ltd, of Wellington; forestry, Mr A. L. Poole, Director-General of Forests; tourism, Mr G. N. Roberts, chairman of Air New Zealand, of Auckland: agriculture, Mr D. N. R. Webb, Director-General of Agriculture; overseas markets and exporting, Mr I. D. Reid, chairman of Felt and Textiles (New Zealand), Ltd, of Wellington. “Within the next few days, the terms of reference for each of the committees will be advertised in the principal newspapers, and we will then invite submissions from the public,” said Mr Davis. “Any person or organisation wishing to make representations will be asked to do so in writing, submitting, five copies to ‘Representations, National Development Conference Office, P.O. Box 5010, Wellington’.”
