FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT

Situation.—A cold front is moving across New Zealand from the west; a weak anti-cyclone is moving slowly towards the North Tasman. Forecast: Kaikoura Coast and Canterbury.—Moderate south-west winds on the plains and coast; winds variable inland; showers of rain and snow in the ranges; mainly fine but cold weather elsewhere. Central Marlborough, Marlborough Sounds.— Fresh north-westerlies; shower areas clearing and weather becoming fine and cool. Nelson.—Fresh south-west winds; some showers about the ranges, otherwise fine and cool. West Coast.—Moderate ' south-west winds; occasional showers but increasing fair intervals; rather cold. Outlook.—All districts: mainly fair to fine.
