SQUARE DANCE
Course In Timaru Square dancers from Dunedin and Christchurch went to the Main School, Timaru, at Easter when Mr A. Shepherd, of Christchurch, held a teaching seminar so that experienced and beginner dancers could learn basic material. Dancers from Auckland are expected soon to attend all square dances in Christchurch as Mr Shepherd is conducting a series of learner classes with nearly 200 persons in the Auckland area. The next big square dance event will be the annual festival in Dunedin at Queen’s Birthday week-end. Plans are almost complete for dancers from New Zealand to attend the Australian national convention in Melbourne in 1969 so that they can bid to have the convention in Christchurch in 1971. If the bid is successful it will be the first time the convention has been held outside Australia since the introduction of square dancing there in 1950.
