Rice-Bowl Appeal The rice-bowl appeal by the North Canterbury branch of the Save the Children Fund last year raised $6500, which had been sent to the national beadquarters, the secretary of the branch (Mrs R. A. Copland) said yesterday. Moved From Hospital Five women who had gone into the Wyndham Maternity Hospital to have babies were quickly moved to the Tokanul Maternity Hospital when the flood struck Wyndham. A sister at the Tokanui hospital said yesterday that all the women were in good spirits after receiving telephone calls from their husbands. None had yet given birth, and no "flood babies’* were expected today, but, as the sister said, “You can never tell.”—(PA.) Minor Fires A Are in a shed at 41 Rotherham Street, Riccarton, about 11.4 a.m. yesterday caused only slight damage. Machines from Sockbum and Sydenham went to the fire. The property is occupied by Mrs Dorothy Frances Meffan. A small fire in a storeroom on the second floor of the Excelsior Hotel about 10.28 p.m. on Sunday caused only minor damage. Hotel staff had extinguished the fire with a bucket pump before firemen arrived.
