No Appeal For Lifeboat
(HZ. Preu Artociatten) HAMILTON, April 15. A Ngaruawahia committee which hoped to launch a national appeal to provide an English-type lifeboat for Wellington Harbour has had to abandon its plans. The suggestion was put forward by Mrs K. O’Connor. The Mayor of Ngaruawahia, Mr A. M. Latta, said that the Minister of Marine (Mr Scott)
was enthusiastic about the proposal. The committee found it could not communicate with anybody in Wellington with the authority to accept the offer, said Mr Latta. In view of the apathy it was considered unwise to proceed with the scheme. Mrs O’Connor said the committee could only get in touch with junior officials.
