Shipping Critic
Much of the success of container ships depends on them being able to obtain port health clearance at any hour of day or night, according to the secretary of the Australian Chamber of Shipping (Mr J. D. Martin), criticising the announcement that the hours of medical inspection for ships arriving in Australia will be extended from the existing sunrise-to-sunset limit to one from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The eight hours lost could cost many thousands of dollars a year, Mr Martin said.—Sydney, April 14.
