R.S.A. Billiards Team Will Be Hard To Beat

Last year's winning A grade team, R.S.A., will »B*ln be hard te beat when the Canterbury Amateur Billiards Association's Inter-club competition begins tomorrow evening. The club will field the same team of R. O’Callaghan, E. Kelly, D. Collie, and T. Hall as emergency. The competition appears to be more open than last year because many of the other A grade teams have been strengthened by the return of experienced players who have not played for a season or two. The strongest opposition could come from the Richmond, New Brighton and Woolston Working lien's Club teams. Richmond was second last year and for the elghtenth year tn succession will nave T. Yesberg in its team. He will receive sound support from E. Grimes and E. Greaves. The New Brighton team looks stronger than previously with the return of a former runnerup in both the New Zealand billiards and snooker championships, B. Kirkness. Backed by N. Thomas and S. Hammond, New Brighton could be a formidable combination. Woolston has again entered two A grade teams and the No. 1 side of R. Franks, a former New Zealand champion, T. Mintrom and E. Martin is certain to

pose problems for the others The No. 2 team will be the Canterbury snooker champion W. Dllkes, H. Mason and R Higgs, who has transferred from the Hornby Working Men's Club. The Christchurch Working Men's Club team will be headed by a veteran, V. Choat. Others in the team will be G. Carson, a finalist In last year’s Canterbury snooker championship, and C. Watson. The Canterbury billiards champion, E. Simons, will lead an experienced Post Office Social Club team. L. Bromley arid S. Leigh are the others. Kaiapoi is a team which often surprises its opponents and is capable of finishing the season well placed. W. Adams and W. Burney will play at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively and the third SesiHon will be shared by D. obday and P. Bayliss. Record entries have been received; 65 teams will play In five grades.
