Struggle To Find Job In U.K.

(P.A. Stag Correspondent!

LONDON, April 13. Many bright, sixth-form school-leavers will have to struggle to find a job in Britain this summer, according to a.national survey just completed.

It predicted a big surplus of job-hunters armed with “A” level certificates In arts, languages and general subjects. At the same time there would be an unsatisfied demand among employers for school leavers with scientific and engineering “A” levels. Arts students would suffer particularly in north-east England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The survey says: “Due to the freeze in the total size of the Civil. Service and the Increasing use of computers among major traditional employers like insurance companies and banks, these recruits will find even greater difficulty in getting jobs of the type they would like.” Mr Peter Brown, of Commarket Press, the educational publishers who conducted the survey, says that many youngsters with “A” levels would have to start work away from home If they were to get the kind of job they wanted“They come to us for advice and we just have to tell them to be mobile. If they stay put they will find that suitable vacancies just do not exist.”

The survey was based on the job needs of 1500 school leavers and vacancies notified by 1000 employers.
