More Records Fall In Universities’ Contest

(N Z Press Association) PALMERSTON NTH. Three more records were broken in a North Island v. South Island contest at the universities’ Easter tourniment at Palmerston North yesterday. Miss B. Walker, of Otago University, set a new record in the women’s discus of 129 ft Ilin, improving her old mark 13in. In the men’s discus, P. Crawford’ Massey) put 4ft sin on his own record with a throw of 168 ft 6in. F. Woodcock (Otago) put 2in on the pole vault record he established last Saturday, with a vault of 12ft Bjin. Shock Win K. Darling (Otago University) scored a shock win in the mile over the present universities mile champion, E. Robertson. He outsprinted Robertson over the final 100 yards to win in 4min ll.lsec. North Island won the competition with 94 points, 10 points ahead of the South Island. After steady rain on Sunday, the track was heavy and this, combined with strong winds, did not produce good times. New Zealand University teams met Wellington invitation sides in Volleyball and both the men’s and women’s

matches resulted in wins for the university sides. The men’s won 3-2, and the women 3-0 Yachts Capsize Racing in winds gusting up to 40 miles an hour, crews competing in the university yachting were taxed to their utmost to prevent capsizing, on the final day of the tournament on the Wanganui River. Capsizes, however, were frequent in both classes of racing, although the Cherubs were better than the Moths in the rough conditions. In the Moths, C. There were no surprise omissions, although yesterday it was doubtful if Miss P. Haworth (Victoria) would be fit to travel.
