Charter Wanted
(HZ. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 15. A vehicular ferry could be on the inter-island run as a temporary replacement for the Wahine in about two months. A Union Steam Ship Company spokesman said cables had been sent to their overseas brokers to charter a ship as soon as possible. “We are not interested in buying one—it will only be on a charter basis,” he said. There were a number of vehicular ships on the market for sale or charter, he said. “This was evident when we had the Rangatira and Hinemoa up for sale, and we had a number of overseas inquiries whether we wanted another ship,” said the spokesman.
