PASTURE PESTS
Tests On 18 Chemicals (N Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 12. The Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys) said last night that although no major breakthrough had been achieved in research on control of grass grub and porina, it was apparent that some promising lines of inquiry had been opened. He said he was particularly pleased at the response to his letter to overseas manufacturers inviting them to review their formulations to see if there might be something to suit New Zealand's problems. Ten of the 18 new organophosphorus materials to be tested tn laboratory and pot trials this year were submitted as a direct result of this appeal. Mr Taiboys said that continued limitation on the use of D.D.T. seemed inescapable. Grass grub resistance to D.D.T. in the Ashburton district was increasing.
