VETERAN IN FORM FOR S.I. SHOOT
(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. A Dunedin veteran, V. Percy, of the Kiwi club, yesterday won the South Island rifle championship at Dunedin. Percy scored 48 points at 300 and 500 yards, and the Capped Belt for 1968 with a score of 146 out of 150. A. S. Duff (143) was runner-up. Percy also won the Stewart Dawson Cup with a score of 98 points over 300 and 600 yards, and the R. B. Wood Cup for the B grade aggregate with 146 points. W. Thomson won the Colonel Smith Cup with 98 points off the rifle. The Stead Tyro Cup for the C grade was
won by D. McKenzie with 140 inclusive of handicap. The Watkins Shield was won by Invercargill No. 1 with 556 points out of a possible 600. Sixty-four competitors took
part yesterday and possibles were scored by A. Compton and Thomson at 500 yards, and Percy at 600 yards. Results: South Island championship aggregate:— A grade: A. S. Duff, 143 points, 1: C. Thom, A. C grade (points include handicap): D. McKenzie. 140. 1; J. R. Dempster, 137, 2: H. E. Scanlan, J. Whyte, W. J. Miller 136.
