Demand For Plebiscite
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SRINAGAR (Kashmir), April 15. Sheikh Abdullah, the former Prime Minister of Kashmir, says “free and fair” general elections could be no substitute for a plebiscite in Kashmir. Addressing a meeting 17 miles from Srinagar, Sheikh Abdullah said he had been misunderstood when he said that there should be free and fair elections in Kashmir to give it a representative people’s government. The present Government in Kashmir, he said, was neither representative nor did it reflect the aspirations of the people. No amount of argument could take away the inherent right of the people of Kashmir to decide their own future.
