(N Z. Press Assn—Copyright) HOLLYWOOD (Florida). The Australian, R. A. Emerson, making his debut as a professional, defeated the world s top-ranked player, R. Laver, in semi-finals of a professional tennis challenge cup tournament on Saturday, Associated Press reported. Emerson won, 6-4, 6-1. In the other semi-final, K. R. Rosewall beat P. Gonzales, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Emerson played coolly and in the second set led 4-0 before Laver replied. Laver muffed five consecutive serves in the match which lasted an hour and a half.
