Sinel Retained As Centre

(.Veu? Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. The Northern Zone Rugby League selectors (Messrs T. Newton, B. Robertson and W. O’Callaghan) have continued their policy of giving the Kiwi forward, H. R. Sinel, a chance to prove his qualities as a centre.

He has been named to partner W. White (Waikato) in this position against the Southern Zone at Huntly on April 28.

Other interesting aspects of their selection are the placing of P. J. Schultz at stand-off half, the return of F. R. Christian, also of Auckland, to the wing after yet another trial as a centre at the week-end. Those who may be considered unlucky not to win selection are B. Gascoigne the Auckland wing, and D. Parkinson, the Waikato hooker. The Northern Zone team is

(Auckland players unless stated): R. B. Tait (Waikato): R. Mincham, Sinel, White, Christian, P. J. Schultz, E. Carson; B. E. Castle, A. P. Kriletich, E. Moore: V. Yates, L. Morgan, H. Tatana. Re! serves: back, G. Woolard; for-! ward, E. Wiggs. MADE LATE BID The dash of Schultz on both days, the late bid of Carson to clinch a place in the Northern Zone team and some enterprising back play were features of the three trials played at Carlaw Park over the week end.

Sinel, normally a forward, produced creditable games in the centre berth. There were some instances of lethargy in the forwards, and one who had an indifferent two days was the Auckland prop, O. G. Danielson a Kiwi last year. It was not until late in yesterday’s trial that Carson made an impact. His considerable speed and footballing sense put him in position to complete an opening with two fine tries. Among the backs who had a good week-end were Tait, who chimed in splendidly from full back to carry on his side's movements far into opposing territory, and Gascoigne, the Auckland wing, who looked perhaps the fastest of all the trialists. White, incidentally had a much better game today, as did a Waikato team-mate. E Baker, who scored one fine try from the left wing. One of the best forwards on Saturday was Kriletich, but the real match-winner of the two days was Yates, the prop, who yesterday scored a try and twice shrewdly reverse-passed to others to set up tries.
